Many voices are predicting the end of this age, the world as we know it, December 21, 2012 at 11:11pm.
Century old prophecies have begun to surface again in our time. People want to know what the future holds; they are looking to various sources to prepare themselves for what is ahead.
Some predict the end of the age, the coming forth of a new golden age. Others are more of the doomsday type oracles expounding vivid images of global destructions. These disruptions, they say will cataclysmic storms, earthquakes, volcanoes, and tidal waves.
The Mayan calendar is the primary sources fueling the secular search for answers regarding the future. This calendar developed by the Mayans began keeping time in 3114 BC. It is credited to be the most accurate calendar known to mankind. It has predicted astrological events perfectly to date for thousands of years. It is based on a 5,125-year cycle, a cycle that ends December 21, 2012. At this time the calendar resents its long count to zero. This is perceived by many to indicate the end of time.
In addition, to this calendar event, the Mayans also have prophesied the alignment of the earth, the sun, and the black hole of the Milky Way galaxy based on their calendar. They prophesy the earth will pass through the “dark rift” of the galaxies gravitational field/plane. The passing will result in tremendous gravitational forces being exerted upon the earth, enough force to cause a “pole shift”, the reversal of the poles of the earth. Along with the reversal of poles will come the onslaught of solar flares and orbital debris rendering great harm and destruction to the earth. The pole shifts could trigger volcanoes, earthquakes, tidal waves and climate shift, all culminating December 21, 2012.
I Ching, the 5,000-year-old method of prognostication practiced by the Chinese also ends all its measurement of time on December 21, 2012. I Ching graphs have predicted the fall of the Roman Empire, the discovery of the new World and Wars in the 20th century through interpretation of 5 coins relating to 64 squares. Concurring with the Mayan, the Chinese agree with a various company of seers down through the ages, whose oracles in some manner set forth the timing of the end of the world.
Merlin the magician, Mother Shipton and the Sybiline prophecies from Rome in 6 BC have similar musings. Many Indian tribes speak of similar events and dates, most notably the Hopi tribe, *The Blackhawk’s and the Sioux ghost dancers.
Perhaps the most interesting contributor is the non-human oracle known as Web bot. Web bots are designed to search the users of the Internet to gain the “collective consciousness” of the World to capture future financial trends, choices, and activates. Interestingly enough it predicted the stock market crash associated with the terrorist attack in America on 9-11-01 right on time.
The 2012 doomsday scenario seems to be upon us according to these sources. However, as Christians, we hold the only true source of truth predicting the future. The Mayan calendar is accurate without fail, only because it is based on lunar cycle of planets God created and set in perfect order.
In response to the multitudes of people who will at some point hear this information, Christians must be ready with compassion filled truth. They must become like those of the early church, whom daily were reading and studying the apostles doctrine. They knew the gospel built upon the foundation of the Apostles and Prophets, Christ Jesus, being the Cornerstone. The knowledge and understanding of the word of God kept them from deceptive doctrines of demons, undue fear, and panic. It allowed them to gently persuade others of the truth and live vibrant, productive lives.
Next time I will explore the scientific facts concerning the end of time and the emerging planet X.
